Knowing the signs of SMA can lead to earlier diagnosis of the disease, which ultimately can improve outcomes.1 With treatment now available for SMA, its relative effectiveness may depend on being able to identify patients early enough to initiate treatment before irreversible neuronal loss occurs.1,2
